Cy Young Award winner Roy Halladay retires as a Blue Jay

The two-time Cy Young Award winner Roy Halladay retires as a Blue Jay as he faces ailing back.

Halladay signed a one-day contract with Toronto Blue Jays and retired as a Blue Jay. He was with Blue Jays from 1998 till 2009 and afterwards was traded to Philadelphia.

Today, Halladay made an emotional announcement about his retirement at Lake Buena Vista, Florida. "As a baseball player, you realize that's something you can't do the rest of your life," he said. Now, he will have more time to spend with family.

A six-time All-Star, Halladay, won AL Cy Young Award in 2003, and in 2010 he won NL Cy Young Award. However in 2012 and 2013, his back and shoulder limited him.

Halladay was well known for his work ethic and great control which made him one of the best pitchers in baseball. He retired after spending 16 years in major leagues.
