ZenFone 2 Release Date, Specs News: Asus Unveils New Flagship Smartphone with Variants in Taiwan

Taiwanese computer hardware and electronics company Asus announced its latest smartphone ZenFone 2 at the recently concluded Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 in Barcelona, Spain, with the promise that the device would be released in March. Keeping its promise, the tech company has unveiled the Asus ZenFone 2 as well as its variants in Taiwan on Monday.

According to Christian Today, the new handsets for the ZenFone series includes the ZenFone 2 ZE551ML, which is available in 4GB as well as 2GB variants; the ZE550ML; and the base model ZE500CL.

The Taiwanese tech company claims that its ZenFone 2 will be the first 4 GB device of the smarphone industry. The 4 GB variant of the ZenFone 2 is equipped with a 64-bit Intel Atom quad-core processor set at 2.3 GHz. On the other hand, the 2GB variant clocks at 1.8 GHz, similar to the ZE550ML model. The ZE500CL is powered by a 1.6 GHZ dual-core Intel Atom processor. All the four models support expandable internal storage via a microSD card.

The Asus ZenFone 2 variants sport a full HD, IPS 5.5-inch display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, and run with Asus new ZenUI, which is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop. As far as the imaging is concerned, the latest flagship devices ZE551ML and ZE550ML come with 13-megapixel rear cameras and 5-megapixel front-facing cameras. On the other hand, the ZE500Cl comes with an 8-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front-facing cameras.

Both the ZE551ML variants as well as the ZE550ML are equipped with a 3000 mAh battery, while the basic model ZE500CL features a 2500 mAh battery. In terms of connectivity, both ZE551ML and ZE550ML models comprise 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity and supports dual SIM option. In addition, they also come with NFC and GPS. The ZE500CL, which is the low-end version of the ZenFone 2, supports 3G connectivity, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and dual SIM.

According to a report by Digitimes, in addition to Taiwan, the new ZenFone 2 will be sold in China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and France starting this month. Sales in other countries will open in April, and the models will be launched in Brazil in June.
