Zayn Malik News: Former 1D Member Calls Off Engagement with Perrie Edwards

It seems Zayan Malik and his long time fiancee Perrie Edwards will be tying the knot eventually. The couple was engaged almost two years back in August 2013, after dating for over a year.

According to IB Times, E! News broke the news about the couple's split on Tuesday saying that Malik and Edwards had decided not to go ahead with a wedding. Meanwhile, People magazine claimed that since the decision was taken by Malik, his former fiancee is "devastated." The publication claimed that sources told them that, although the news went public only now, Malik and Edwards had split about two weeks ago.

The source reportedly told the publication, "She's been putting on a brave face, as Little Mix has had promotion to do, but she's obviously devastated."

Incidentally, the news regarding the split comes only a day after Malik and Edwards topped Capital FM Radio's list of "Sexiest Male and Female in Pop 2015." Others on the list include Harry Styles, Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato. Following the announcement of the poll results Perrie took to her Twitter handle to thank the radio station. In fact, she seemed to be in disbelief that she could have won. She suggested that the award should have been "for #QueenB," referring to Beyoncé who was also on the list.

During the major part of their engagement both Malik and Edwards remained mum regarding their future plans. According to an earlier report in IB Times, Edwards had said on June 15 that she was sick of being asked if she and Malik had decided on a wedding date. Talking to Capital FM, she said, "I'll get married when I'm bloody ready!"

Apparently, the couple did have some initial planning for their imminent nuptials. In May, the "Little Mix" singer told The Sun that the ever-changing schedules of Malik and her made planning a wedding very difficult.

Meanwhile, neither the former One Direction singer nor Edwards has publicly commented on addressed their split at this time, while many fans of both pop stars have expressed their sadness over the breakup on Twitter.
