YouTube Creators Studio News: Google Boss Sundar Pichai Targets India, YouTube Space in Mumbai Soon [VIDEO]

It's been nearly three years since Google launched its first YouTube production studio, called the "YouTube Space," in Los Angeles in 2012. Now, the Mountain View-headquartered search engine giant plans to open a similar studio in Mumbai, India. Google made an announcement in this regard in a blog post on Wednesday.

According to IB Times, the move comes in the wake of the Indian-born Sundar Pichai taking over as the CEO of Google, which owns YouTube.

YouTube has collaborated with Whistling Woods International, a film school in India and among the largest in Asia, to launch a new video production space. According to Google, YouTube Space Mumbai will offer master classes from other creators and experts, access to filming and editing equipment, networking events, as well as studio space for free.

In his blog, YouTube Spaces head, Asia Pacific, David MacDonald wrote, "Through this collaboration, India's popular up-and-coming YouTube creators, as well as their students, will have free access to Whistling Woods' studios, high-end audio, visual and editing equipment, in addition to training programs, workshops and community events."

However, Google is yet to announce the precise date when the facility will be launched. The blog post further reads, "We'll be opening the gates for all creators soon."

In fact, a video accompanying the announcement offers some additional details on the space, for instance a 250-person cinema with Dolby-certified surround sound, a high-end audio studio and a high-definition editing suite. All these are present in the Whistling Woods International campus and will henceforth be partially managed as well funded by Google.

Mumbai will be the seventh city to boast a YouTube studio space. The project started in Los Angeles, and currently YouTube manages projects in Los Angeles, London, Tokyo, New York City, São Paulo and Berlin. While the space studios in Los Angeles, New York and London are not within a university campus, Google's latest facility, in Berlin, is also tied to a film school partnership. It was launched in April and now YouTube Space Berlin is run through the MET Film School.
