YouTube 2015 Update News: Google to Launch Paid Subscription Service Soon

YouTube, world's No. 1 online video giant, has announced that it will soon launch a subscription service. The announcement was made by Robert Kyncl, the content head of the streaming service, at the Code/Media 2015 in California.

A Reuters report claims the Google Inc. will be launching a YouTube paid streaming service.

The report quotes Kyncl saying that YouTube is still "fine-tuning the experience." He further added that the streaming service has been contemplating to implement the idea of a paid service for some years.

Reuters quotes Kyncl saying, "There is a subset of audience who wants more things so they are used to paying for those. We don't think it changes anything for existing users."

According to the report, the purported paid service is likely to be without advertisements, and include exclusive content from YouTube's media partners. It will also enable the subscribers to watch videos even when they are not connected to the Internet. YouTube has played with the idea on earlier occasions too, and even introduced an experiment in 2013 allowing viewers to watch "specific" channels after paying subscription fees.

Although the experiment to charge subscription fees from viewers wanting to watch specific channels did not prove to be a success in the past, YouTube is of the view that now it has hit upon the right modus operandi to try and launch the subscriptions service once again.

If YouTube goes ahead with its plans and introduces the subscription streaming service, it will certainly be a major shift for the online video giant. Currently, YouTube has about 1 billion viewers who watch free videos, which include advertisements, every month.

Earlier, in November 2014, Google said that the subscription for the ad-free service will have starting monthly fees of $7.99. In addition to watching watch videos offline, users can also listen to music even when other apps are working.
