YotaPhone 2 Specs, Features, Launch News: Russian Dual-Screen Smartphone Made Available in China
The YotaPhone 2, the Russian smartphone with dual electronic-ink screens, which President Vladimir Putin presented to his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping last year, will soon be available on the Chinese market. Yota Devices CEO Vladislav Martynov announced on Monday that the handset will be available to consumers in China this month.
IB Times reports that Yota Devices will launch YotaPhone 2, the latest model of the handset, in mid-April in collaboration with a local state-sponsored equipment supplier named Potevio. Martynov announced this at the Boao Forum in China's southernmost province of Hainan.
According to South China Morning Post (SCMP), Martynov said, "It is made in China and will be on sale next month." On that note, the device was first launched in December.
While YotaPhone 2 will be available to consumers in China this month, 1010, a Hong Kong-based mobile phone network operator, has been promoting the device among its existing customers for quite some time now. In fact, 1010 has also offered the YotaPhone2 for free along with its subscription packages.
In terms of specs, the YotaPhone 2 comes with a 4.7-inch rear display along with an electronic-ink screen, which offers notifications for social media updates, text messages, maps, weather as well as breaking news. In addition, the screen also serves as a small e-book reader.
SCMP quoted Martynov as saying, "The phone stands out not because two screens is better than one, but because the second screen serves users in many fundamental ways." The Yota Devices chief went on to add, "Conventional screens don't work well in the sun, but with the second screen you can read easily on the beach."
The YotaPhone 2 features a 5-inch AMOLED display and the company claims that it also consumes less battery compared to many other smartphones available in the market. The phone runs on Android operating system, and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor.
In the U.K., YotaPhone 2 is currently sold for £550 pounds ($825). However, the company has yet to announce a price for China.
