YotaPhone 2 News: Yota Devices Will Not Release New Handset in North America
Russian smartphone manufacturer Yota Devices has announced that it would not be releasing the company's latest flagship handset YotaPhone 2 in North America. This is certainly going to be a major disappointment for the fans of the unusual device.
Quoting a report in tech site The Verge, Christian Today reports that recently Yota Devices sent an email to the financers behind the launch confirming the news. It is worth mentioning here that the YotaPhone 2 is a result of a successful run on crowdfunding site Indiegogo.
According to the report, the email stated that the company had a falling-out with its manufacturer partners in terms of delays.
Yota Devices is quoted to have stating, "The reason for our cancelled launch is due to unforeseen delays including both production and delivery of the North American variant of YotaPhone 2 from our manufacturer."
While it is still possible for Yota Devices to push through with the U.S. release, the delay with the delivery will cause repercussions with the company's planned itinerary for 2016.
The statement issued by Yota Devices further said, "The logistics were insurmountable and the device would simply arrive too late."
Considering the statement of the company, it is likely that one of the plans for 2016 will be to come out with a latest, globally-released YotaPhone.
In fact, the quirky design as well as the specs of both the original YotaPhone and its successor generated much interest online. For the uninitiated, the YotaPhone is the first-ever handset to blend a dual-display feature, with a standard LCD display on the front and an e-ink paper screen at the back.
It is believed that Yota Devices backing out from its earlier commitments regarding delivering its new YotaPhone to the U.S. will have a massive impact on the customers in North American. To order to recompense, the company will now be offering fans two choices. People who funded the Indiegogo campaign may opt to either request a refund for their pledges, or to receive an international version of the YotaPhone 2 instead.
Meanwhile, Yota Devices is still resolving details on how and when the people who backed the Indiegogo campaign can receive their refunds. Those who will be opting for the international version of YotaPhone may face some problems, as the model does not support LTE in North America.
