Xiaomi Mi 5 Release Update: New Flagship Device Packs Snapdragon 820 Chip & Feature Ultrasound-Based Fingerprint Scanner

Following a brief hiatus, the Xiaomi Mi 5 is once again in the news on account of a latest leak by reliable tipster Leaksfly through the Chinese site Weibo. According to the source, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is planning to release its next flagship device Mi 5 in November. The source further added that though Xiaomi has been preparing to release Mi 5 this summer, it eventually decided to wait for Qualcomm to release its next chip.

Quoting Weibo, IB Times reports that the Xiaomi Mi 5 will be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, which will come with support for Sense ID, which is basically a fingerprint scanner technology that utilizes "ultrasound' instead of "optics." GSM Arena claims that apparently, the latest technology is further "resilient against dirt and water on the finger." In fact, earlier rumors hinted that the specifications of the Xiaomi Mi 5 will include a fingerprint sensor.

As far as the specs of Xiaomi Mi 5 are concerned, the upcoming handset will come in an aluminum chassis; have a 5.5-inch display and QHD screen resolution. While it is expected that the latest smatphone from Xiaomi will be longer as well as wider compared to the earlier handset models from the company, the upcoming device will supposedly be slim, and measure just 5.1 mm.

In addition to the above mentioned specs, the Xiaomi Mi 5 will be sport 4 GB of RAM and come equipped with either a 16 GB or 64 GB unit internal memory. According to rumors, the device will also boast a USB Type C connector.

In terms of the handset's camera configuration, the Xiaomi Mi 5 is expected to house a 16 MP OIS rear-facing camera main unit, plus an 8 MP front-facing shooter for selfies as well as video chats.

What is interesting to note that like the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, the Xiaomi Mi 5 is also likely to have a bigger sibling in the form of Xiaomi Mi 5 Plus, which is likely to boast a 6.0-inch display. However, as of now, the Chinese tech titan is yet to confirm the specs of either the Xiaomi Mi 5 Plus or Xiaomi Mi 5.
