Xiaomi Mi 5 News: Key Features Surface Online, New Handset Launch Expected with 5.7-inch Mi 5 Plus Variant

Popular Chinese tipster Kjuma has leaked some of the key features and the price details of the much anticipated Xiaomi flagship handset Mi 5 online via Weibo.

Quoting KJuma, IB Times reports that the Xiaomi Mi5 will sport a 5.2-inch QHD (2560x1440 pixels) display along with Gorilla Glass 4 shield and be powered by Snapdragon 810 Octa-core CPU. The tipster claimed that the device will feature a 16 megapixel main camera on the rear side along with a 13 megapixel snapper on the front. In addition, the new handset from Xiaomi will pack an impressive 3,000mAh battery unit.

As far as the pricing is concered, Xiaomi Mi 5 may be at ¥2,399 (around $386).

The Mi5 spec list seems credible, but we have doubts over two key features: the 3,000mAh battery, which is a downgrade compared to 2014 model that houses a 3,080mAh cell.

Meanwhile, there is an inconsistency regarding whether Xiaomi is using Snapdragon version 1.0 or 2.0 for its upcoming handset. The Snapdragon version 1.0 was used in HTC One M9 and Sony Xperia Z3+ and it led to over-heating issues. Taking a clue from this, OnePlus has confirmed that it will use the Snapdragon 2.0 for its upcoming flagship OnePlus 2.

According to KJuma, Xiaomi will also be unveiling a phablet variant dubbed as Mi 5 Plus alongside the original model. The tipster claimed that his source told thim that the 5.7-inch model will feature QHD screen with Gorilla Glass 4 shield, be powered by Snapdragon 820 CPU, and house a 3,500mAh battery unit. It will come with an impressive 23 megapixel rear camera with OIS (Optical Image Stabiliser) along with a 12 megapixel shooter on the front.

While leaked details of Mi 5 and the purported Mi 5 Plus seem believable, one canot vouch for its credibility since Xiaomi has a thorough testing mechanism for its flagship devices.

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer keeps several prototypes and it goes for mass production only after thorough testing. Therefore, it is higly possible that some of the features posted by KJuma may not be present in the final version.
