'XCOM 2' Gameplay Trailer News: New Video Shows Updated Gameplay Mechanics [VIDEO]

Firaxis Games unveiled its upcoming alien shooter 'XCOM 2' at the 2015 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) and last week followed it up by releasing a 10-minute-long gameplay video.

Christian Today reports that the events in 'XCOM 2' kick off about two decades from where the original title ended. In the new title, 'XCOM 2,' players are pit against alien enemy forces, in a background where the alien invaders triumphed - something very different from the original game 'XCOM' game. This game sets up the players as part of the resistance group that works in the covertly to liberate the human race from the raiders.

The trailer video boasts an updated gameplay mechanics as well as the visual aesthetics of the upcoming 'XCOM 2' video game. The single player mission occurs in an urban background where constituents of the the military wing of the alien invaders called Advent are guarding a press conference organized to celebrate the Unification Day, which is the anniversary date when the alien invaders first triumphed over humanity. The aim of the revolutionaries is to damage the statue in the city square.

The recently released gameplay video of 'XCOM 2' also displays the manner in which combat and weapons are featured as well as used in the game. Recognizable weapons comprise melee items and flying drones. In addition, the video displays the new feature of the game, in which players put on a novel stealth system that can be used to slip into good vantage points and waylay enemies. The new stealth system also enables players to whisk without being noticed.

The video also displays the variability of the graphics, and the way the cut-scenes have been integrated into the gameplay, getting rid of the problem of loading screens and heavy transitions. According to the report, the 10-minute gameplay video flows without a glitch between cut-scenes and player gameplay, making it appear as a cinematic trailer for a movie instead of a preview video of any game title.

'XCOM 2' developed by Firaxis Games and published by 2K Games will be released for the PC sometime latter this year. As of now no details are available on whether the exclusivity of the title will remain or the publisher will also launch console versions of the title.
