Xbox One Sales News: Microsoft One-Ups Sony After Long Time?
Xbox One sales went past PlayStation 4 last month, which is big news considering that the last time it happened was eight months ago.
According to Time, the last time that Xbox One sales upstaged the performance of PlayStation 4 was in October 2015 due to "Halo 5: Guardians." Then you have to go six months back when Microsoft again outperformed the Sony console.
While some people may point to the release of the Xbox One S as the possible reason for the spike in revenue stream, the new console didn't come out until Aug. 2.
And it appears that Microsoft is keeping up its momentum as the sales of the 2TB Xbox One S already sold out in the UK. According to the news article from MCV, the orders boosted by 75% the total earnings of the company during the release week.
Harvey Eagle, the marketing head of Xbox UK, told the website that they couldn't be happier by the reception of fans for the slimmer and more powerful console. He said they are about to roll out the Xbox One S 2TB Gears of War Limited Edition and fans can already pre-order that console.
"Our aim between now and Christmas is to drive excitement for the range of new Xbox One S consoles that will be available with great new features - including 4K video streaming capabilities," he said.
It's not yet clear how the recent spike in Xbox One sales will affect overall performance from Microsoft. The company has been very secretive about its numbers. While Sony said that it sold 40 million units of PlayStation 4, it's estimated that Microsoft sold 20 million of its own consoles.
