Xbox One Price Cut News: Microsoft Offers $50 Discount on Console For Limited Period of Time

Here is some good news for gamers in the United States; Microsoft has once again cut the price of Xbox One by $50. The move comes in the wake of a spurt in Xbox One console sales during the holiday shopping season in November-December 2014.

However, IBTimes reports that just two weeks back Microsoft had raised the Xbox Once price to its original price - $399. The company had cut the price to $349 just ahead of the Black Friday prompting numerous consumers to buy the console at the discounted price. According to Microsoft, even the recent price cut is a "promotion" and it will be available for a limited period.

In fact, Microsoft dropped the price of Xbox One on several occasions before also. When the console was launched in 2013, it was priced at $499 and available with the Kinect motion-control system. Following the launch of the PlayStation 4, which was initially priced at $399, Microsoft also dropped the price of its Xbox One to $399.

As far as the sales of PlayStation 4 are concerned, it was quite healthy till the 2014 holiday season, when Microsoft offered a $50 discount on the Xbox One.

NPD Group, a market research organization, states that although the sales of the latest Xbox One, PlayStation 4 as well as the Nintendo Wii U was good throughout the 2014 holiday season, the overall sales of gaming consoled dropped by 4 percent during the end of 2014, in comparison to corresponding period in 2013. Nevertheless, many gamers with limited budgets are still opting for the older and cheaper consoles like the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

While the sales of the Wii U lag much behind the Xbox One as well as PlayStation 4, Nintendo Co. has stated that sales during December 2014 was the strongest for the Wii U. The Wii U, which carries a price tag of $299, experienced a 29 percent increase in sales from the previous year.
