Xbox One Indie Game News: 'Shovel Knight' & 'Wasteland 2' Announced for ID@Xbox’s Next Release

Two more indie games were revealed to be on ID@Xbox's next release among 50 other titles according to an announcement from Microsoft.

Shovel Knight is a tribute to classic 8-bit platformers with a modern touch to its gameplay and design. The game originally arrived in 2014 on the Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, and Windows. It arrived for Linux and Mac shortly after. On April 21, the game will be available for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PS Vita. According to Digital Trends, the Plague of Shadows expansion will be free and will debut at this year's PAX East.

Wasteland 2 appeared to gamers in 2014. It is a sequel to the highly praised '80s role-playing game that directly inspired the Fallout series. It first came to Linux, Mac and Windows systems. Xbox One is the only gaming console to announce its release. According to IGN, the developer revealed on the PlayStation Blog today that Wasteland 2 is getting a Game of the Year edition. It will be coming soon to the PlayStation 4.

Other highly anticipated titles for the next ID@Xbox release are Smite, Goat Simulator, and Mighty No. 9. For those who are unfamiliar with ID@Xbox, it is a program where qualified independent game developers can self-publish digital games with development kits provided by Microsoft for the Xbox One.

According to Microsoft, more than 1,000 studios around the world are currently creating games using the ID@Xbox development kits, with more going out every week.

An official release date for Shovel Knight, Wasteland 2 and the 50 other independent game titles to appear on ID@Xbox is still to be determined.
