'X-Men: Apocalypse' New Cast News: Cyclops to be Played by Taron Egerton?
'X-Men: Apocalypse' is set to hit theaters in May next year and one of the young and up-and-coming actors that is being pegged to join the main cast, specifically as the mutant Cyclops, is Welsh actor Taron Egerton.
The upcoming "X-Men" film is set to tell the tale of the superheroes as their younger selves. Marvel and 20th Century Fox is still busy completing their main cast, but Egerton is one among many names that have been dropped as screen testing for the film.
Egerton, 23, is said to be testing for the role of young Scott Summers a.k.a. Cyclops, who eventually becomes the leader of the X-Men. However, when asked about the role, Egerton answered vaguely.
"I really can't comment on the Cyclops thing," he said, "Of course, everyone would like to ply a superhero, but this is by no means me saying I would like to go play Cyclops."
Aside from Egerton, other young stars are reportedly being eyed to play younger versions of the mutant, superhero team.
For young Cyclops, others being considered are Jamie Blackley from "Snow White and the Huntsman" and Tye Sheridan from "Tree of Life."
For young Jean Grey, "Game of Thrones" star Sophie Turner and "The Lovely Bones" star Saoirse Ronan are also said to be undergoing screen testing.
As for young Storm, contenders are said to be Alexandra Shipp from Nickelodeon show "House of Anubis" and Zendaya Coleman Disney's "Shake It Up."
Some familiar faces fans won't get to see though are original stars Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Patrick Stewart, as both stars have been reported as not appearing in the film.
When was asked if he would be appearing in the film, Stewart stated, "No. Nor Sir Ian McKellen, either." He explained that the film was "going to be looking very much at the earlier lives of all our characters" and felt he and McKellen will not be appearing for those.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" will debut in theaters on May 27, 2016.
