'X Men: Apocalypse' Character Cast News: Nightcrawler Roled Tapped by Actor Kodi Smit-McPhee
Bryan Singer, director for X-Men: Apocalypse, announced via his Instagram account that Kodi Smit-McPhee will be joining the cast as Nightcrawler.
Nightcrawler is a blue, teleporting mutant that has been seen before on the big screen in 2003's X2 and was played by Alan Cumming. Coming Soon had some insight of this character's first appearance in the comic series, "Nightcrawler, created by Len Wein and Dave Cockrum, made his first comic book appearance in 'Giant Size X-Men' #1 back in 1975."
The 18-year-old Australian actor, Smit-McPhee, is making his way into the limelight since his debut in The Road back in 2009. Since then he has appeared in films such as ParaNorman and last year's Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
Also to appear in the film with Smit-McPhee is Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, and James McAvoy as Charles Xavier. Other new cast members include Game of Thrones' Sophie Turner as a younger Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, and Tye Sheridan as Cyclops.
As far as casting Hugh Jackman as fan-favorite Wolverine, Singer is still unsure whether the character will appear in the new film or not. Sources say that Singer could keep Jackman and Wolverine since the characters is basically immortal, but nothing has been set in stone.
With the franchise choosing such a new cast, fans are eager to see what the new film has in store for them.
Production for X-Men: Apocalypse will start in April of this year. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 27, 2016.
