'X-Men: Apocalypse' Casts 'Game of Thrones' Star Sophie Turner and Others for Lead Roles

Some huge news about the "X-Men: Apocalypse" film has hit the Internet in a major way. The casting for Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Storm has all been announced by director Bryan Singer via Twitter.

Singer tweeted, "Meet our new and brilliant young mutants: ?@Alexshipppp as ?#Storm ?@SophieT as ?#JeanGrey and ?@TyeSheridan as ?#Cyclops #XmenApocalypse" on Thursday.

This puts Sophie Turner, more commonly known as playing Sansa Stark in HBO's "Game of Thrones" coming into the movie as Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp, seen in "House of Anubis," set to play Storm, and Tyler Shiridan, from "Mud" picking up the role as Cyclops.

It's been perceived that the movie will be taking place in the '80s, so the characters will have to appear much younger as they classically have, most likely somewhere around the early '20s.

All three actors have been featured in some great projects so fans are quite confident in leaving the roles in the hands of the young successors.

"There are currently two generations of actors playing the X-Men at different points in their lives. Adult versions of the mutant superteam were first seen in Singer's present day-set 'X-Men' in 2000, before younger models turned up in 1960s-set prequel 'X-Men: First Class'. Both generations then appeared in the most recent movie 'Days of Future Past' thanks to the magic of time travel. Next up, 'Apocalypse' is set in the 1980s and continues the story of the younger characters," writes CNET.

Along with this news it has appeared that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan will not be joining the cast in the new film, as their young versions, played by James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender, will be reprising their roles.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" will be ready for release in May 27th 2016.
