'X-Men: Apocalypse' Cast News, Spoilers: Patrick Stewart Talks New Movie's Actors and Reprisals
Actor Patrick Stewart was recently featured on Larry King's talk show and offered some slightly disappointing news on the casting after he was asked if he was reprising his role as Professor X in the upcoming film, 'X-Men: Apocalypse'.
"No, nor Sir Ian McKellen either. I was learning quite a lot more about [the film] last night, and it is going to be looking very much at the earlier lives of all our characters, and so I don't think we'll be making an appearance," Stewart responded.
This news may have some fans confused as Professor X has played a centerpiece in every X-Men adaptation as of yet.
However, it has been reported that this film will be focusing on the '80s version of all the main characters, so "Stewart's Professor X" and "McKellen's Magneto" will not be featured.
Both the characters have younger versions that have been featured in previous films that will be sure to star in "Apocalypse." James McAvoy as Professor X and Michael Fassbender as Magneto.
Director Bryan Singer offered a statement to Entertainment Weekly on how he plans to set up the next X-Men film:
"You won't feel at the end of the movie that it set up Apocalypse. What it does is it sets up possibilities. But what we'll discover in Apocalypse is that events in this movie made that happen. ... Apocalypse deals with ancient mutancy. What would humans have thought mutants were? What would mutants think humans were? You're dealing with gods and things like that. And what if one survived and what if that found its way into our world?"
This may not be the nail in the coffin for Stewart and McKellen reprising their roles.
"While Stewart appears to be sitting Apocalypse out, he might not be gone for good. The actor has previously hinted he'd be up for his Professor X popping up in an X-Men spinoff. Maybe he'll find his way into Gambit, starring Channing Tatum, or Deadpool, with Ryan Reynolds," Yahoo! writes.
'X-Men: Apocalypse' is set to release on May 27th 2016.
