'X-Men: Apocalypse' Cast News: Olivia Munn Cast as Psylocke in Upcoming Franchise Film

Actress Olivia Munn is joining the X-Men universe, with the likes of Professor X, Wolverine, Storm and Mystique. Munn will be playing the character Betsy Braddock, also known as Psylocke.

In the newest installment of the X-Men franchise, X-Men: Apocalypse, the character will be making an appearance.

The director of the movie, Bryan Singer announced Munn's joining of the cast on Instagram. Psylocke first appeared in the X-Men comic-books in 1976, but until now she has not had a large presence in the X-Men movies.

In fact, in the previous movies, Psylocke has only made one appearance, in 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand, in which she was one of the minor villans. In that movie, the role was played by Mei Melancon.

Psylocke's powers are telepathy and teleknesis. The cast for X-Men: Apocalypse is growing consistently. There are several new actors joining the cast, including Lana Condor, playing Jubilee, as well as Oscar Isaac and Kodi Smit-McPhee.

Some of the sars who will be returning to the big screen are James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult and Rose Byrne.

In addition, Jennifer Lawrence has said that this movie will be the last time that she will be reprising the role of Mystique, and Sir Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart will not be returning to play Magneto and Professor X.

Munn is best known for her role as Sloan Sabbith in the HBO series, Th Newsroom, and she starred recently in Johnny Depp's film, Mordecai.

She is currently filming a movie with Ice Cube and Kevin Hart, Ride Along 2. The X-Men Apocalypse script will be written by Simon Kinberg, Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty.

As it stands, the film is set to be released in May, 2016.
