'X-Men: Apocalypse' Release Date News: Kodi Smit-McPhee Talks Nightcrawler Role in Upcoming Film

It has come to fans' great surprise that actor Kodi Smit-McPhee will be entering Bryan Singer's growing cast for 'X-Men: Apocalypse.'

The whole cast will now have be revamped, as the movie will be focusing on the younger version of the main characters. On that note, the 'Planet of the Apes' actor will be taking on the role of Nightcrawler.

In an interview with Superhero Hype, Smit-McPhee spoke on how he felt about portraying the character and how his performance will differ from the one before him by Alan Cumming. He states:

"I don't try to avoid it, and I don't try to keep it in mind. I just let things come naturally. Because it is the Marvel Universe and X-Men and there are a lot of people expecting a lot of things, I did a huge amount of research on anyone who has portrayed it and even in the comics and the cartoons and live action. I just followed Nightcrawler's story. I feel very honored and grateful to be expressing that now. I can't wait."

Nightcrawler also didn't make an appearance in the last X-Men film, 'Days of Future Past.' Smit-McPhee speaks on why he thinks that was:

"I think Bryan said that he thought that it just wasn't the right time because there were already so many mutants in it and after reading the script now, I can see what they're doing. They have the ability to bring these younger characters in now, so I think a lot of the people who know the traditional origins of where this came from will be very happy."

This actor was actually Singer's first choice to play the character, so we can hopefully expect a lot to what he's going to bring.

'X-Men: Apocalypse' premieres May 27th, 2016.
