'X-Men:Apocalypse' Cast News: Ian McKellen & Patrick Stewart Will Not Appear in Upcoming Film

Actor Patrick Stewart recently revealed that he will not star in "X-Men: Apocalypse," and neither will Ian McKellen.

Stewart revealed the news during his guest appearance on "Larry King Now." The 74-year-old star added that he just learned more about the storyline the previous night and said that the film will feature younger characters.

Stewart played Professor X in the "X-Men" franchise while McKellen portrayed Magneto. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender portrayed their younger versions in "X-Men: Days of the Future Past." McAvoy and Fassbender will reprise their roles in the upcoming franchise along with Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

As for the younger counterparts of the other mutants, director Bryan Singer tweeted about the new cast members on Thursday and revealed that Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan and Alexandra Shipp will play Jean Grey, Cyclops and Storm respectively.

Turner is well known for her role as Sansa Stark in "Game of Thrones." Sheridan acted in several films, which includes "Joe" and "The Tree of Life." Shipp's most famous portrayal is portraying Aaliyah in Lifetime's 2014 biopic of the singer.

Another "X-Men" newbie will play supervillain Apocalypse in the upcoming film is Oscar Isaac. The actor will reportedly star in another big-budget movie, which is "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens" this year.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" will take place in the 1980s. The film's writer and producer Simon Kinberg revealed that the franchise will follow the comic-books unlike other superhero movies. Kinberg admitted it is difficult to sequel for "X-Men: Days of the Future Past" since he wants to make sure that it will not be inferior from the last film. "Days of the Future Past" earned $764 million in worldwide box office sales.

Kinberg assured fans that "Apocalypse will offer something new. The film will take the audience to fresh environment and it will be a "global-disaster movie."

Based on Kinberg's words, "X-Men: Apocalypse" will most likely be another global hit. The movie will open in theaters on May 27, 2016.
