'X-Files' Six Episode Series News: Fox Revives Hit Sci-Fi Show, David Duchovny & Gillian Anderson to Reprise Roles
For a six-episode limited series, Fox is bringing back the hit sci-fi TV show of the '90s, "The X-Files."
On that note, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will reprise their roles as FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. For over the course of nine seasons, the two tracked down paranormal activity. The show turned to be a huge success and a staple in pop culture to this day.
Chris Carter, the original creator, said in a statement, "I think of it as a 13-year commercial break. The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories."
Fox Television Group chairs Gary Newman and Dana Walden said of the show's return, "'The X-Files' was not only a seminal show for both the studio and the network, it was a worldwide phenomenon that shaped pop culture - yet remained a true gem for the legions of fans who embraced it from the beginning. Few shows on television have drawn such dedicated fans as 'The X-Files,' and we're ecstatic to give them the next thrilling chapter of Mulder and Scully they've been waiting for."
According to the New York Daily News, "The X-Files" was the longest-running science fiction series in television history. The show ran from September 1993 through May 2002. It also received critical acclaim as it took home 16 Emmy awards. At its peak in 1996 and 1997, the show was bringing in almost 20 million viewers an episode.
"The X-Files" is said to be inspiration for other hit series since as "Lost" and "Fringe."
Further casting for the new set of episodes will be announced soon. The show is said to start production supposedly this summer, but an exact premiere date has not been confirmed.
