‘X-Files’ Revival Series Spoilers, News: Reboot Inspired by Surveillance Revelations
With the dawn of the 'X-Files' revival series upon them, fans are looking to learn as much about the new episodes as possible, to see just what's going on with Mulder and Scully. While there's not much available in terms of plot spoilers, Chris Carter, the show creator, had some insight for the fans about why now is the perfect time for a revival series.
Carter, who spoke briefly about the series in Cannes, just after the first episode premiered, said, "It's a perfect time to come back with the X-Files considering global politics."
He went on to say, ""We're trying to be honest with the changes dealing with digital technology: the capability of spying. Clearly we're being spied on in the US - or at least spying on you - and there seems to be no shame in it."
Clearly many current events have inspired the revival and have surely embedded themselves within the content of the new episodes. While there's no word as to which specific events will be going on while Mulder and Scully are snooping about, they'll surely be some serious issues.
For those that may not know, the first episode of the new series sets up a rather promising arc, it revolves around "the most evil conspiracy the world has ever known." However, there's no telling what some of the other episodes will be about, as Carter mentioned he's constantly thinking up new episode themes and plots.
Shortly after a screening at the Mipcom conference, Chris Carter stated "Every day I look at the newspaper and I see a possible X-Files episode," he said. "I did it for a long time and you never quite lose the eye for what would be good X-Files storytelling."
Stepping back to the original series, fans will remember many of the episodes that have been labeled, "monster of the week episodes." On that note, it seems that an episode just like that would be included in the 'X-Files' revival series.
Last but not least, while the new series is arguably short, it's not known whether they'll be more. "I love telling X-Files stories. The truth is out there! If we satisfy audience expectations, certainly there's an opportunity," Chris Carter said, "Mulder and Scully will be in wheelchairs before they are wheeled off stage!"
