WWDC 2015 Announcements Recap: Everything Apple Announced at WWDC 2015 Keynote

Apple Inc.'s annual Worldwide Developers' Conference (WWDC) 2015 kicked off on Monday, June 8, wherein the Cupertino-based tech titan made several software and service announcements, including Apple Music, the company's music streaming based on the lines of Beats Music, OS X EI Capitan, and WatchOS 2. While the conference is meant for Apple's developers, for millions of others, who could not attend the event in person, below is everything that they need to know.

Apple Music

MacWorld reports that eventually, Apple announced its much anticipated music streaming dubbed, Apple Music, which will be available for iTunes on OS X and Windows, iOS and even Android sometime in the autumn. Apple Music will allow the user to stream everything available on iTunes, in addition to offering several human-curated playlists over and above song and playlist recommendations. However, it is not only regulated to signed artists, as even unsigned artists can share their music using the service. Apple Music also comes with a Connect area that allows artists to post anything from their most recent tracks to video clips of them recording in studio.

As Apple Music will offer access to all songs available on iTunes, some users may require help to decide what they want to listen to. It is here that Beats 1, a 24-hour radio station broadcasting worldwide and boasting popular radio figures including Zane Lowe, comes in. Beats 1 will have its base in Los Angeles, New York and London and will switch between them automatically throughout the day for a 24/7 experience.

OS X El Capitan

In addition to Apple Music, the Cupertino-based company also announced the most recent version of OS X named El Capitan, an update focusing on performance with just a few new features. As far as the new features are concerned, it offers new gestures including swiping to delete an email, enhanced Spotlight search along with movable and resizable windows and also allowing the users to pin popular sites in Safari.

OS X El Capitan also offers SplitView, something akin to AeroSnap in Windows 8, as well as other window-arranging features to help the user organize OS X. It comes with a Spaces Bar to facilitate creating and managing multiple desktops.

In addition, the Metal graphics technology announced with iOS 8 is on the way out to make room for OS X. The latest OS version will offer improved detail and game performance in addition to enhanced performance in apps that are processor. Adobe has already announced its commitment to adapt Metal for its Creative Cloud apps.

While an OS X El Capitan beta has been made available for developers on Monday, Apple will release a public beta for consumers in July.

iOS 9

Apple introduced iOS 9, which improves existing features instead of offering new ones. For instance, Apple has announced that Siri has become 40 percent faster since the last year and now handles more than a billion requests every week. Siri is more contextually aware in iOS 9 and learns the user's habits to try and make their iOS experience somewhat easier. For example if the user prefers listening to music while commuting to work, Siri will detect this and whenever the user plugs his headphones in at around that time of day, it'll open the Music app for him automatically.

In addition, it will also augment the battery life of iPhones, with the iPhone 6 running for an extra hour on iOS 9. Apart from this, Apple is incorporating a battery saving mode that will shut down non-essential features and make the user's iPhone last an extra three hours.

At the same time, iOS 9 also introduces genuine multitasking for the iPad. The OS allows the user to split screen apps on the iPad, aking to features present on Windows and some Android tablets. iOS 9 also introduces a trackpad integrated into the on-screen keyboard, which is accessible by putting two fingers on the keyboard and enabling fine control over the cursor.

Apple Pay

Apple has also announced expansion of its mobile payment service Apple Pay to the U.K. in July with several banks supporting it from day one. While Apple Pay will work with almost 70 percent of all U.K. credit and debit cards, it will also be compatible with TfL enabling users to use their iPhone or Apple Watch to travel around London. Apple Pay can be able used at Boots, Costa, McDonalds, Starbucks, JD, Pret, Marks and Spencers and certainly, McDonalds.

Apple Maps

Apple Maps will now come with the necessary transit directions for 10 cities across the globe and gradually provides the user with information for commuting via public transport. In addition, it will provide information on walking times and tell the user where he needs to enter or exit a station.

Apple News

Apple News is a latest iOS app that replaces the company's Newsstand app, which some have coined as a "Flipboard killer." Similar to Flipboard, Apple News presents articles in a clean manner and offers gorgeous animations, photo galleries and videos. The user is able to choose his favorite publications and he will receive a personalized feed. Initially, this app will be rolled out to only three countries; US, UK and Australia.

WatchOS 2

The WatchOS 2 is the latest version of the Apple Watch software, which is relatively faster, has fewer bugs and will be available in autumn. This newly-announced app will be able to access the microphone and accelerometer, play audio through the integrated speakers and even utilize the Digital Crown. In addition, HomeKit will also be made available on the Apple Watch via Siri.

TimeTravel

TimeTravel is the latest feature that enables the user to see upcoming events/ weather on his Apple Watch face widgets by employing the Digital Crown. In addition, WatchOS 2 also allows developers add custom widgets to Apple Watch faces and run apps natively on the Watch - a massive plus for developers and consumers.
