The Gospel world was rocked after hearing news that well-loved singer James Fortune was arrested for domestic violence. Although he is still not off the hook with the courts the gospel world has seemly embraced him again with open arms.

According to Abc13.com an official police report was released early this month that says his wife, Cheryl, was admitted to the emergency room at St. Luke's Sugar Land with apparent broken bones, minor injury, and possible internal injuries.

According to Attorney Toni Jones, Fortune beat his wife in November of 2014 with a barstool and it landed her in the hospital.

Abc13.com reported that the psalmist was originally ordered to stay away from his children. Fortune had to attend a November hearing that included testimony on his behalf by his wife. Fortune's wife, the alleged victim, testified and told the judge that the kids were present when the supposed incident occurred. They however were not harmed according to her testimony and said she believes it's in the best interest of the children for them to have visitation with their father.

The Judge granted Fortune's request. He was granted visitation rights only with members of his wife's family present. He's currently out on $20,000 bond.

Despite the misfortune the "I Trust You" singer and his group FIYA continued to get gigs. The first of which was a New Year's Eve concert in Houston Tx at The Bridge with Pastor Greg Patrick. Fortune was also shown love by BET's Bobby Jones Gospel show where he performed. His next major concert included a line up with gospel heavyweights Hezekiah Walker, Tasha Cobbs, Michelle Williams and more at the top of 2015. The year just continued to encourage the singer with nominations for several Stellar Awards and being included on Billboards #1 Gospel Hits album.

Unfortunately the incident with his wife was not the first time the Grammy nominated singer/songwriter, popular radio host, and choir director was accused of domestic violence. Twelve years ago, Fortune pleaded guilty to punishing his 4-year-old stepson by putting him in boiling hot water.
