'World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor' Expansion Pack Problems: WoW Servers DDoS Attacked After Expansion
'World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor' is the fifth expansion pack for the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) 'World of Warcraft' that came out on November 13, 2014. Not even one day passed since it went live and it was already DDoS attacked. Rumors are rife that it was performed by East Asian groups of hackers located in China.
Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack is an attempt to make an online service unavailable by overwhelming it with traffic from multiple sources, and its purpose is to delay the servers as much as possible so people can't play normally. This is what Blizzard's community manager Micah 'Bashiok' Whiple's posted on their official forums: "WoW Insider received reports earlier today that Blizzard may be the target of a significant DDoS effort"
The last 48 hours have been painful for developers who finally took servers down for maintenance at 5:50 am which we know from the official forum post "The servers are now down for maintenance, and the attack is over. If further ones happen, we'll announce accordingly."
'Warlords of Draenor' is fifth expansion and also the first expansion pack to exist primarily before the main timeline, it's also popular as "Back to roots" expansion and it's available in three versions, namely Standard Edition, Digital Deluxe Edition and Collector's Edition.
Some of new features are - Level cap raised from 90 to 100, New world: Draenor, Player character revamp for Classic races (before Cataclysm) and Group Finder which is a new in-game tool for finding people to raid with and much more.
One thing is for sure, hackers gave Blizzard Entertainment an unforgettable gift for WoW's tenth birthday!
