'World of Warcraft' Expansion Launch News: Tops 10 Million Subscribers After 'Warlords of Draenor'

The release of the latest 'World of Warcraft' expansion, 'Warlords of Draenor', has boosted the number of total subscribers for the game to more than 10 million players worldwide.

Blizzard Entertainment's MMO, massively multiplayer online game, highest subscriber count was a total of 12 million garnered back in 2010. Earlier this year, the count fell to 6.8 million before the release of 'Warlords of Draenor' bumped it up to over 10 million.

Blizzard made the announcement via their official website, where they also announced that they have sold over 3.3 million copies of 'Warlords of Draenor' within the first 24 hours of its release.

Mike Morhaime, CEO and co-founder of Blizzard, said, "We're thrilled that so many players jumped in to play Warlords of Draenor on day one and are having a great time with the new content. We poured a lot of hard work and passion into this expansion, and we appreciate all the kind words from players and the overwhelming support they continue to show for World of Warcraft."

Blizzard also admitted on their site that they experienced technical issues with the launches in North America, Latin America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia. They announced that they addressed the issues and rolled out updates, which also followed the release of the expansion pack to South Korea, mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau on Wednesday.

Aside from the 'Warlords of Draenor' storyline, it was the latest content additions to the new expansion pack that seemed to be enticing users to return to the game. Users can look forward to the addition of the garrisons, the return of some of the characters and gameplay features that date back to the classic Warcraft MMO and the free level 90 hero upgrade.

On a side note, 'World of Warcraft' celebrates its tenth year anniversary this year.
