'Wonder Woman' New Cast News: 'Star Trek' Actor Chris Pine Tapped for Steve Trevor Role

Recent news reveals 'Star Trek' actor Chris Pine to be casted as Steve Trevor in the upcoming 'Wonder Woman' film. It was previously believed that Scott Eastwood was locked into the part, but it is reported that he opted out of that role to play a mystery role in 'Suicide Squad.'

"Warners tested a handful of other actors but later decided to look at more high-profile names and go with a straight offer. Pine won over production execs and Gadot at his meeting, leading the studio to pursue him for the role," writes Variety.

Steve Trevor plays Wonder Woman's love interest in a large part of the comics, so fans can expect to see Pine and Gal Gadot share some close scenes. It is unconfirmed if the character will be playing out his roles in DC films outside of 'Wonder Woman.'

"In the comics, Steve Trevor was an intelligence officer in the United States Army during World War II whose plane crashed on Paradise Island, the isolated homeland of the Amazons. He was nursed back to health by the Amazon princess Diana, who fell in love with him and followed him when he returned to the outside world. There she became Wonder Woman (and also his co-worker, Diana Prince)," writes Variety.

Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman is set to make her first appearance in 'Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice,' a year before her solo film.

'Wonder Woman' will be directed by Patty Jenkins and is set for a release date of June 23, 2017.
