'Wonder Woman' Cast News: Gal Gadot Talks Being Nervous About the Role
There will be a lot of expectations for a lot of the actors involved in the 'Batman V Superman' film, and actress Gal Gadot isn't exempt from this skepticism.
There were some that largely supported her casting as Wonder Woman, while there are still doubtful that she can pull off the role. Despite this, director Zack Snyder seems to have the utmost confidence in her portraying the role.
"I knew [the role] was big and it was for one of the franchises," Gadot said in an interview with EW. "He said, 'Well, I don't know how big she is in Israel...' and my jaw just dropped. There are so many expectations for this character, it's impossible not to? be a little nervous about it."
Gadot will indeed have a lot riding on her as her solo film for Wonder Woman will be the first female lead superhero film ever.
"Since the release of Iron Man in 2008, there have been more than 20 mainstream comic-book adaptations with a man in the title role. The number with women? Exactly zero, a statistic ?that will remain unchanged until the 2017 release of Wonder Woman, with Gadot carrying the golden lasso. Audiences will get their first glimpse of her in action as the Amazonian warrior in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," writes EW.
"She plays a super-important part," Snyder says. "In a lot of ways, she's the gateway drug to ?the rest of the ?Justice League."
The Israeli actress' big movie break was in the 'Fast and Furious' franchise, although her background in action films didn't fully prepare her for what she was expected to do as Wonder Woman.
"I love doing the swordplay stuff," she says. "It's another skill to add to my collection." As for that lasso, though, she says, "I'm still ?working on that."
'Wonder Woman' plans to premiere in 2017.
