‘Wolverine’ Sequel News: Hugh Jackman Hints Patrick Stewart Will Feature as Professor Xavier in New Film
Even as fans of 'X-Men' movie franchise were unhappy with the news that Professor Charles Xavier will not be appearing in the upcoming 'X-Men: Apocalypse,' Patrick Stewart, who portrayed the character in the previous movies of the franchise, as well as Hugh Jackman have hinted that Xavier may still feature in the new movie.
According to IB Times, Stewart has revealed in a recent interview that he is negotiating with the producers regarding reprising his character in the stand-alone sequel to 'The Wolverine.'
The report quotes Stewart saying, "What I'm very excited about is that we have been talking about a 'Wolverine' movie, which would team Hugh Jackman and me together. Wolverine and Professor Xavier." He went on to add, "That would be a very different sort of 'X-Men' from the four movies that I've already done."
In fact, Wolverine and Professor X's father/son vibrant relationship has been a subtle but vital aspect in nearly all 'X-Men' movies so far. Hence, it is believed that exploring this relationship elaborately in the upcoming 'Wolverine' movie would definitely have made perfect sense. Even as Stewart has confirmed that he was currently in talks regarding the role in the movie, Jackman recently hinted that the buddy-mutant movie is actually happening.
At a recent press meet organized for promoting his upcoming movie 'Chappie,' CinemaBlend asked Jackman regarding the involvement of Stewart Jackman in the sequel to James Mangold's 2013 film. Responding to the query, the actor said, "We haven't had [Charles Xavier] in the 'Wolverine' movies, and it's always been a really important relationship to understand. ... I'm not gonna deny it, but I'm not gonna not say it's true ... not. You got it?"
While there is very little information regarding the plot of the upcoming "Wolverine" movie, CinemaBlend claimed that Jackman has already disclosed that the film's story will be based on an existing comic book arc. Precisely speaking, Wolverine is a very popular character and he has appeared in a host of crossovers, stand-alone comics as well as team-ups.
