Winona Ryder News: Actress to Star in New Original Netflix Series

Winona Ryder is the latest in the group of stars to head to Netflix. As it has been confirmed by Entertainment Weekly, Ryder will play in an upcoming Netflix series that is as yet untitled, alongside David Harbour.

The series comes from Matt and Ross Duffer, the minds behind Wayward Pines.

It was previously titled Montauk, and will take place in Long Island in the 1980s, following the story of a young boy who goes missing.

It will feature such twists as government conspiracy, supernatural forces and a strange little girl.

Ryder will be playing the role of Joyce, the missing boy's mother. The series is set to debut in 2016.

The show has been described as "a love letter to the 80s classics that captivated a generation".

It is unclear whether the show was inspired by the Montauk Project, which was alleged to be a top secret government program which explored psychological warfare and time travel.

The Duffer brothers will both script and direct the series, which will consist of eight episodes.

Dan Cohen of Netflix will executive produce alongside Karl Gadjusek, Shawn Levy, and the Duffer brothers.

Winona Ryder has recently starred in a few films including The Iceman and Homefront. She is also expected to appear in Beetlejuice 2, but lately she seems to be gravitating more towards television roles.

She will appear later this summer in the HBO miniseries, Show Me a Hero.

Harbour, Ryder's costar, is not new to the small screen at all, having had recent roles in Manhattan, The Newsroom and State of Affairs. He will be playing the local police chief.
