Windows 10 Technical Preview Release News: Microsoft Introduces New Mail, Calendar Apps, & More

Microsoft has finally unveiled its highly-anticipated Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 10061 on Wednesday. The latest operating system from the Redmond, Washington-based tech behemoth presents the latest versions of the Mail as well as Calendar apps.

According to Tech Radar, currently, the Windows 10 is only available to Windows Insider customers, who happen to be on the fast track. The two-stage preview approach of Microsoft allows the fast ring customers receive releases before the customers in the slow ring. However, they may encounter more bugs or issues.

New Mail and Calendar Apps

Windows Technical Preview release offers customers access to the latest Mail and Calendar apps, which were also directly delivered to mobile customers in the Windows 10 for phones technical preview.

Microsoft claims that the Mail as well as Calendar apps both support Office 365, Outlook, Exchange, Gmail, IMAP, POP, as well as other protocols.

The release comes with a three-pane UI to enable quick navigation, an easy toggle to change between the two apps as well as also gesture support to carry out quick tasks similar to that on the mobile version.

In a blog post, Microsoft said, "Mail includes customizable Swipe Gestures, letting you swipe right or left to take actions like delete, flag, move or mark as read/unread." The post added, "also check out the new email authoring experience. Mail leverages the familiar and rich capability of Word to that allows you to easily insert tables, add pictures and use bullets and color to your text."

It is advisable that users who will be upgrading to the new build should visit the Store Beta, which is the grey Store tile, with a view to update both apps. "The version of the Mail and Calendar apps included in this build has a known issue that causes every typed letter to appear twice," Microsoft stated. Nevertheless, the update from the store is supposed to fix the problem.

Other improvements

The latest release also offers other improvements. For instance, tablets owners are expected to have a better experience with the latest 10061 build, since the taskbar is now larger and supports better touch.

Referring to the experience, Microsoft has stated, "Entering Tablet Mode causes the Start button, Cortana, and the Task View buttons to all grow in size and space out to be more touchable." The company further said, "Items in the Notification area also widen to improve touchability. Also, pinned and running apps are removed by default to reduce clutter and simplify the experience."

In addition, the task view comes with new improvements as well as a new black theme. Multi-tasking customers, who require additional desktop space, will find Windows 10 very useful as it also supports unlimited virtual desktops.
