Windows 10 Release Date News: AMD Spills Microsoft's Launch Window During Conference Call
AMD CEO Lisa Su revealed that the upcoming operating system, Windows 10, will be released during the last week of July. The reveal was nonchalantly said during Microsoft's conference call among its analysts and investors.
Su mentions that they are considering the launch of the Windows 10 at the end of July to watch the impact of the update on the back-to-school season and that there will be an expected delay during the onset of the back-to-school season inventory build-up. However, the CEO wasn't able to clearly state the RTM timeframe for rolling out to PC companies. The launch date seemed to have been moved earlier from the expected September release date to study consumers behavior for Microsoft products.
Windows 10 has been making waves for users who currently have the Windows 8.1 on their devices as the new OS will come as a free update. This includes the recent Lumia devices which are packed with the Office 365 application guaranteed to have a one year subscription to sync desktop activities from a desktop computer to phone. As for devices with older Windows operating system, pricing has not yet been made clear and would likely be available a few weeks before the new OS is released.
The upcoming operating system will have some revolutionary upgrades including an achievements system which is adopted from Microsoft's gaming platform Xbox. Users will be rewarded for tasks involving the programs on any device. Additional features including the Windows personal assistant named Cortana; a new web browser codenamed Project Spartan, Xbox Live Integration and DirectX 12 will be found on the system update.
Other known changes for loyal Windows applications are as follows: Lync will be replaced with Skype for Business, a revamped Microsoft office, a new Start button and a unified home for all Windows apps.
