Windows 10 Latest News: Microsoft’s Latest OS Installed on 18.5 Million Machines

Latest reports say that Microsoft's latest operating system Windows 10 has reportedly been installed on 18.5 million machines. However, some reports suggest that the early numbers may perhaps been slightly inflated following a claim by one source that the OS has failed to reach as many as 20 million machines.

Quoting a report in NeoWin, Tech Radar says that that its internal sources have told the website that they found that Windows 10 has actually been installed on 18.5 million machines. They further said that the 67 million figure reported previously actually relates to the number of machines that are registered to receive the operating system.

On the other hand, going by Microsoft's own figures, which were released on the day of the OS' release, claimed that about 14 million machines installed Windows 10 in the first 24 hours and, at its peak, the new operating system was being installed on some 1,500 machines every second.

Considering that the level of downloads has been as claimed by Microsoft, it is likely that there have been a good number of bugs and errors. Nevertheless, this is not surprising considering the mammoth undertaking involved with bringing launching a new OS to PC users.

People using Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 on their PCs will be able to take advantage of the free upgrade to Windows 10 for the next 12. In fact, the number of downloads will increase greatly as the PC owners discover that the upgrade does not price-tag, but comes totally free.

Meanwhile, Microsoft has already focusing on readying the next major part of the OS launch: Windows 10 for Mobile. Windows users can expect it to arrive in the next couple of months and start trying to erode the lead built up by iOS and Android further.
