Windows 10 Free Download News: Direct Upgrade for Windows 7 & Windows 8 Users Increasingly Likely
If the latest reports are to be believed, Microsoft will be releasing Windows 10 for people using Windows 7 and Windows 8 sometime soon, which will enable them to update their computer operating systems simply by downloading the latest OS.
While they will not be required to reformat their systems, the Redmond-based tech giant will be offering the new OS, free to Windows 8.1 users.
According to Christian Today, Microsoft will make Windows 10 available to Windows 7 and 8 users as a direct upgrade, while computers running on older Windows versions, such as Vista and XP, will need to be reformatted and reinstalled.
The report quotes an official Twitter post by Microsoft General Manager (Operating Systems Group) Gabriel Aul stating that the older versions do not have the new Windows OS support upgrade installation paths.
In 2014, Microsoft introduced the Windows 10 Technical Preview with the purpose of testing it and receiving feedback. The company urged the testers to provide feedback regarding the Windows 10, as it would be useful for developers in improving the software prior to its official release. On their part, the developers have been trying to ensure a smooth release as well as to get rid of the bugs from the OS.
A release by Smart Company claimed that as many as 1.5 million users participated in the test preview which resulted in 1,300 bugs fixes.
In the meantime, Microsoft has announced that it will release the Windows 10 Consumer Preview at an event scheduled on Jan. 21. The company will also commence its Windows Insider Program at the same event.
The main features of Windows 10 will include reintroduction of the start menu on the desktop, which was omitted in Windows 8. Microsoft is reintroducing this feature as many users did not approve the company's move to do away with it.
In addition, Windows 10 will also incorporate universal apps as well as a combined app store for Windows 10 as well as Windows Phone OS, allowing a single version of the app to work on desktop and mobile devices. Moreover, Windows 10 will also present Linux-style multiple desktops, enabling users to change between apps and files.
Meanwhile, Kevin Turner, Microsoft COO has confirmed that Windows 10 is still on course and the company is determined to release the Developer Preview sometime in early summer, providing app makers sufficient time to make necessary adjustments to their respective apps.
