'Westworld' News Update: Writers Lay Out Roadmap For 'Westworld's' Upcoming Five Seasons
Last fall, HBO halted the production of its next big series, "Westworld," so its writers can lay out the roadmap for its next five years. Now, the network has already plotted out the next five seasons of the sci-fi drama.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Teddy Flood portrayer James Marsden revealed that the network halted the production not just to complete the remaining strips for the first season, but to map out the next five seasons of the series.
"It wasn't about getting the first 10 episodes done, it was about mapping out what the next five or six years are going to be," he said.
"We wanted everything in line so that when the very last episode airs and we have our show finale, five or seven years down the line, we knew how it was going to end the first season," he added.
It is normal for series creators to have a longer vision for their shows especially when selling them to networks, but putting together a definite end in mind is atypical. According to Jonathan Nolan, he did not want the upcoming series to be a rehash every season, introducing new guests year after year.
"We wanted the story of the origin of a new species and how that would play out in its complexity," he explained.
Fans of Michael Crichton's 1973 film that went by the same title raised their concerns about the show earlier on in its production after HBO kept pushing back its premiere date. In his interview, Nolan addressed the issue and explained that their team had to plan some major details while remaining faithful to the original film.
"Westworld" premieres on October 2, 9:00 P.M. on HBO.
