‘Wayward Pines’ New Fox Series Air Date, News: Record Breaking Simultaneous 124 Global TV Network Launch
M. Night Shyamalan's pitch for the upcoming limited series, 'Wayward Pines', is paying off. The new psychological thriller has set a record by being the only series to be launched on 124 networks simultaneously all over the world.
For those in the U.S, Fox has announced that the series will be premiered on May 14, 2015.
On that note, this simultaneous launch strategy has never been used before. According to Forbes, what networks would usually do is they test out a genre on specific regions and study the reactions of each territory before completing the negotiation for the launch offering.
However, this new way of launching could work for Fox as Broadcasting & Cable expert Jon Lafayette noted, "The value of acquired programming to us is diminishing. As we get bigger globally that increases our portfolio of original programming."
Another note pointed out by Forbes is the fact that Shyamalan is already a household name, with 'Signs', 'The Sixth Sense' and 'The Happening' on his resume, people are already anticipating his work. There is also the added "heavy promo rush" that will pique the interest of the global audience.
Kevin Reilly, former Fox Chief, also supported the upcoming show and said that it is "highly addictive."
'Wayward Pines' will mark Shyamalan's first TV project. There's not much in terms of plot details to consider yet, but the teasers show that it is going to be about a Secret Service agent named Dillon who was assigned to work on a mission to find two missing agents in Wayward Pines, Idaho.
