Washington Redskins NFL 2015 News: Redskins’ Junior Galette Suffers Torn Achilles
Washington Redskins linebacker Junior Galette has added to the slew of summer season ending injuries in the NFL after suffering a torn Achilles during a Wednesday practice, ESPN reports. Citing sources, ESPN.com's John Keim reports that Galette is facing a six to eight-month rehabilitation for the injury.
As noted by the report, Redskins coach Jay Gruden did not confim the Achilles tear, but confirmed that his linebacker did in fact suffer a left ankle/foot injury.
"I'm very concerned," Gruden told reporters.
The Redskins picked up Galette earlier this month, signing him to a one-year deal after the 27-year-old was released by the New Orleans Saints earlier this summer a year after he was inked to an extension worth up $41 million.
As noted by the ESPN report, Galette was arrested back in January on charges of domestic violence. While those charges have since been dismissed, he remains under investigation by the NFL after a video from 2013 showed a man resembling the linebacker involved in a fracas on the beach, which also showed that same man striking a woman. Galette's representatives have denied that the man was their client.
After picking up Galette, Redskins general manager said the team was "thorough, thorough, thorough" in its investigation of their addition.
"Right now, I'm, worried about him as a person," nose tackle Terrance Knighton said. "I know he loved the game and he probably feels like he's letting people down, that's how much he cares about his teammates and the people around him and his family. To me right now, the impact hurts on a personal level."
Adding, "Football-wise, the next guy has to step up. Trent Murphy has been having a great camp. He was definitely ready to start, so he'll be ready. We drafted Preston Smith to come in and be an impact player."
During the past two seasons, Galette had a combined 22 sacks.
