Warren Sapp News: NFL Hall of Famer Arrested for Assault and Solicitation

Following the arrest of NFL Hall of Famer Warren Sapp on charges of assault and solicitation, Yahoo! Sports reported more about the recent incident.

According to the report, in the early morning hours before Sapp was arrested, guests at the Renaissance in downtown Phoenix were awakened by what they believed was an argument and physical altercation in the hotel hallway.

According to a source with details of the arrest, sometime around 2:30 a.m. MT, guests brought to the attention of the hotel loud arguments followed by objects banging, Yahoo! Sports reports.

One guest who stepped out of their room to check the disturbance saw a woman lying on the floor, with marks assumed to be from a physical altercation, and a second woman with her. The women were said to be shouting and alleged that Sapp assaulted them, according to the source.

Sapp was in Phoenix covering Super Bowl XLIX. He was immediately fired from his job as an analyst for an NFL network following the incident.

Sapp was charged for domestic battery in 2010, but the charges were eventually dropped. The Class of 2013 Hall of Famer was also arrested for domestic battery in 2014 in Miami.

The Yahoo! Sports source said Sapp was interviewed by responding police officers, and then remained in his room until the second woman was located. The two women identified themselves to police as escorts, and said they met Sapp at the hotel.

Sapp was charged with soliciting prostitution and assault at around 7 a.m. local time. The long-time Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle was arraigned in a Phoenix court, and released on his own recognizance Monday afternoon, Yahoo! Sports reports.

Sapp, who also played with the Oakland Raiders, played nine of his 13 NFL seasons with the Buccaneers. He had a total of 96.5 sacks during his career.
