Walt Disney World Installs Metal Detectors Outside Parks
As a reaction to the recent terrorist attacks abroad and series of gun violence incidences in the U.S., Walt Disney World Resort has decided to install metal detectors at the entrances of their three major Orlando theme parks. The decision has caused some concern if not controversy among parkgoers.
Disney World's top management still has not clarified exactly when the metal detectors will be in place. According to SeaWorld, installing the devices is part of its efforts to improve the security of the park goers during the Holiday Season. Meanwhile, Universal Orlando has stated that the metal detectors that were recently installed are still being tested.
Disney World and the public in general have been alarmed by the recent extremist attacks in Paris and by the mass shooting in San Bernardino, California. The security concern was exacerbated by last weekend's arrest of a man who tried to bring a gun within the premises of the "Magic Kingdom."
Aside from the additional security measures in Orlando, Disney also plans to install metal detectors at Disneyland and Universal Studios in Hollywood. Installing the metal detectors and being in alert are expected to minimize the risks of possible violence within the Disney theme parks and attractions.
Other security measures are implemented such as discontinuing the sale of toy guns within Disney World. The company also implemented a ban on visitors to wear costumes even at Halloween parties. Additional security guards and deputies were deployed and have been publicly conspicuous in the past few days. These guards also have specially trained dogs accompanying them in the patrols.
