'The Voice' 2013: Live Performance Recap 5/7/2013 / Team Blake Brings Country to 'The Voice' [VIDEO]
On tonight's episode of The Voice 2013, Team Blake Shelton and Team Shakira performed while judges Adam Levine and Usher looked on in anticipation of America's votes. Finally to the live episodes, the stakes felt a lot higher.
Team Blake came out of the gate strong. Shelton is singlehandedly bringing legitimate country acts to The Voice. Garret Anderson ("Imagine"/John Lennon), Holly Tucker ("How Do I Live Without You"/Trisha Yearwood), The Swon Brothers ("Fishin' in the Dark/Nitty Gritty Dirt Band), electrified the first of the episode, while Team Shakira felt lackluster at best.
Shakira and Blake's duet marked a cheesy halftime singing Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now." We all know Shakira's got pipes but how Blake Shelton judges and mentors on a show called The Voice is beyond me.
Continuing with the ballad theme, Team Shakira's Karina Iglesias chose a strong take on Al Green's "Let's Stay Together." Shakira was enamored and reminded why she picked Karina in the first place.
Sasha Allen singing "Oh Darling" will haunt Adam Levine's dreams while she stays in the competition. Shakira did well stealing Sasha from Team Adam, and Blake Shelton and Usher wouldn't let him forget it.
Blake's remaining two singers Justin Rivers and Danielle Bradbury finished the night out pretty strong. Rivers, a music vet, sang a rousing version "Meet Me In The Middle." Rivers definitely has star power just needs votes. Bradbury seemed a little young in the rehearsals but nailed her "Maybe It Was Memphis". Judge Adam Levine said Bradbury was "one of the ones to beat."
