‘Vikings' Season 4 Plot News, Spoilers: Alliance between Ragnar Lothbrok and King Ecbert Expected [VIDEO]

In all likelihood that actor by the end of the upcoming Season 4 of 'Vikings,' Travis Fimmel will be ending his journey with the team as King Ragnar Lothbrok, but fans may see the character eventually fulfilling his long-time wish prior to bidding adieu to his family and friends.

According to IB Times, fans of this popular history drama on History Channel were delighted to receive plenty of information regarding the upcoming episode at the San Diego Comic-Con 2015.

'Vikings' creator Michael Hirst disclosed that the upcoming season of the series will start with a time jump. Christian Today reports that Hirst also hinted the death of Fimmel's character, as he revealed that the show is not about the leader, but about the Vikings.

Talking about the fate of his character, Fimmel said, "He's got very close to death. A lot of this year is his fascination with death. Like Odin, who hung himself to feel how it felt to be dead."

As a result, speculations are rife that Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig) may possibly be the next leader of the 'Vikings.' In fact, Ludwig also teased the fans of the show that they will see his character's gradual changeover to a leader.

Meanwhile, in an interview with IGN, Ludwig said, "This is the season where he's finally come into his own and now it's about Bjorn and learning from his father, but now there's this camaraderie between the two. You really start to see him step up and start running things when his father initially can't. It's a really exciting time for him and also very nerve-racking."

Although the impending death of Lothbrok had depressed his fans, Fimmel said they need not lose hopes and teased a new love interest for his character. Talking about his character's new love interest in the upcoming season of 'Vikings,' Fimmel said, "A very talented actress. We've been working a lot lately. I think it's going to be a unique relationship."

In the meantime, Hirst also suggested a new alliance between the Viking leader and King Ecbert of Wessex (Linus Roache). Entertainment Weekly reports, "[King Ecbert] is a fascinating character. A good foil for Ragnar. There are many things they have in common, which they recognize. They may well, ultimately, get the chance to talk about some of the things they have in common."

'Vikings' will return to History Channel for Season 4 in 2016.
