‘Vikings’ Season 3 Spoilers, New Cast: Lothbrok Seizes Paris, Kevin Durand Joins Series
Earl Ragnar Lothbrok will usher in the Viking Age in the upcoming TV series 'Vikings' for its Season 3. Fans can expect to see Lothrbrok send his Kattegat warriors to lay siege on Paris.
The last season of the hit series ended with Lothbrok, played by actor Travis Fimmel, killing Denmark's ruler Horik, played by Donal Logue, which led him to his position as the new king.
The new king and his men are going taking a fleet of 100 ships into the battle, which is dubbed as The Great Raid, and head for Paris.
"We're [going to] attack Paris," said the show's creator, Michael Hirst, "Paris was the most extraordinary city. It was still a Roman city, and it was like nothing else on earth."
The Paris siege will be filmed with the help of CGI technology, Hirst said during a panel discussion at the San Diego Comic Con recently. Aside from 'Vikings', Hirst also worked as writer and producer for other popular historical series, including 2011's 'Camelot', 2007's 'The Tudors', and 2007's 'Elizabeth: The Golden Age'.
The new king of Denmark will also have a chance to reconnect with his brother Rollo, played by Clive Standen, during the upcoming Paris raid. The first two seasons saw Ragnar and his family making their way to England, but for the show's latest season, fans will see the just-proclaimed king adjust to his new responsibilities as a ruler.
"We go back to the raiding thing this year instead of all the dramas in Kattegat," Fimmel said.
Meanwhile, 'Lost' fans will see actor Kevin Durand join the new season of 'Vikings' as the mysterious man only known as the Wanderer.
Aside from Fimmel and Durand, the cast also includes Lothair Bluteau, who plays Emperor Charles of France; Jennie Jacques, who plays Judith, mother of Alfred the Great; and Morgane Polanski, who plays the emperor's daughter, Princess Gisla.
The 10-episode 'Vikings' Season 3 is scheduled to premiere in the summer of 2015.
