Vanessa Hudgens Broadway Debut News: Actress to Star in 'Gigi' on April 8
Vanessa Hudgens debuts in her first Broadway act in the title role of "Gigi," which opens on April 8.
The previews will be revealed on March 19 and fans can buy tickets on Jan. 23. The play will take place at the Neil Simon theatre on Broadway.
"Gigi" is a teenage girl who is tasked to accompany a wealthy but bored playboy in all his endeavors. The setting is in Paris during the turn of the last century. The title role was originally played by the iconic Audrey Hepburn who was not yet well known at that time.
Hudgens has expressed her excitement for the upcoming show via an Instagram photo that showed her rehearsing at the venue. She wrote: "Omg I can't believe it!!!!!! It's official, after DC I'm going to be making my Broadway debut with@gigionbroadway. Feeling so blessed, grateful and extremely excited!!!!!!"
The actress has landed another musical show on NBC's "Grease: Live." Hudgens will play the leader of the Pink Ladies, Rizzo who is branded as the girl with "reputation."
The Disney alum said that playing the role is new for her and she knows it is going to be a challenge. Hudgens added that she is excited to bring the character into the small screen and is looking forward to be a "pink lady."
"Grease: Live" is NBC's third take into bringing classic musical hit shows such as "Sound of Music" and "Peter Pan Live!" into television with brand new cast members. The casting was not immediately finalized since there were several stars considered for the musical.
Hudgens is a perfect choice for the role since she has starred in several movies and recorded a few albums. The actress also showcased her singing abilities in the hit Disney film "The High School Musical" with former boyfriend Zac Efron.
Fans can listen to Hudgen's singing voice again as "Grease: Live" opens at 7 pm on Jan. 31, 2016 on FOX.
