Vampire Diaries is set to return to air, and things are going to heat up on set. Stefan and Caroline will finally become a couple when she gives in to his temptations.

At the end of season 6, Caroline (Candice Accola) was only focussing on moving on from Stefan (Paul Wesley), despite the fact that he wanted to have a relationship with her.

In a new interview to tease season 7, Caroline Dries, the show's executive producer, shares that Caroline will not be able to resist Stefan and she will succumb to his advances.

Dries stated in an interview with TV Line: "Because there's constantly life and death stakes thrown at them, they're thrust together in a storyline. So as much as there's chaos around her, every time she looks at Stefan, she gets butterflies."

Dries also added that "[there may be] massacres here [and] bombs there," but "it's only a matter of time before it's like ... 'You make me happy.' So, we'll see them get together soon."

Dries hints that she really meant 'soon' and "[the] relationship is coming in stages. Just because two people kiss doesn't mean they're going stead of whatever the term is now. So, they'll have their starts and stops a bit, but we'll explore each of those chapters of the relationship."

There is also hint that there will be a twist in the relationship plot:

"I would say Stefan and Caroline are a part of one of the bigger surprises of the season, which we'll unfold around Episode 6 or 7,"

Julie Plec, writer and executive producer, recently shared with TV Line. She teased: "It's a bit of a fun curveball to throw their way."
