'Vampire Diaries' Season 6 Spoilers, Rumors: Screenwriter Hints Damon and Elena's Engagement?
Since The CW's hit series "The Vampire Diaries" began in 2009, fans have been waiting for some romantic news about characters Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder). Screen writer Neil Reynolds hinted at the two furthering their relationship, via Twitter.
The news of a potential engagement between Elena and Damon, nicknamed Delena, came from a Twitter follower, who asked Reynolds what fans should expect from this week's episode, "A Bird in a Gilded Cage." Reynolds responded with a variety of emojis and one included a ring.
Fans then proceeded to theorize that Elena and Damon could likely get engaged on Thursday's episode. Somerhalder told TVLine recently that tying the knot for the two characters in unlikely. In the interview he said, "Nope. Think about it this way: Damon's 173 and Elena's 18 or 19. I mean, come on. Something tells me that's not the best idea."
Thursday's episode ended up confirming Somerhalder's response. The two did not get engaged. The couple ended up looking for a way to cure Damon's brother Stefan, played by Paul Wesley. Last week's episode revealed that Stefan and Caroline (Candice Accola) allowed themselves to be taken over by their vampire side and went on a small rampage of death in Mystic Falls.
The two heated things up as they ended up together for the night. Fans were excited about the news at first, but soon realized that their budding relationship was false since Stefan and Caroline succumbed to their blood-thirsty ad emotionless sides. Once they return to their humanity, who knows how the two will handle what they've done.
Instead of getting engaged, Damon and Elena try and figure out they can turn Stefan and Caroline back. It involved more hints that Reynolds had dropped in his Twitter post. Viewers can catch the episode on The CW's website.
