Vampire Diaries returned with a vengeance in its midseason premiere, "Woke Up with a Monster." Now in "Prayer for the Dying" we will see the twins in a dangerous position as their 22^nd birthday approaches. There is a lot of drama awaiting Liv and Luke.

In the last episode of Vampire Diaries, we were frozen to the screen as Caroline slipped a dying patient her blood - a patient who was miraculously cured shortly after. Unbeknown to Caroline, the patient wasn't really cured. Meanwhile, Kai has been knocked out and locked up, but Jo isn't ready.

Unfortunately, the CW network only promises more heartache moving forwards.

The next episode of Vampire Diaries will be centered around Liv and Luke, The pair had agreed to let Jo take their place and merge with Kai, but their father does not agree. The twins' father does not want to put the witch coven in danger if Kai wins.

Liv and Luke are still fighting for their lives, but at least Liv has Tyler to back him up. According to the synopsis, Tyler will "urge Liv to let him talk to her father." If all goes well, he may be able to change his mind. But the twins aren't out of danger yet. When Damon's plan goes out of control, he will force one of the twins to "take matters into their own hands."

Jo needs training, but Sheriff Forbes' brain tumor is causing serious health implications. Caroline, unfortunately, has deadly problems of her own.

"Prayer for the Dying" will air on The CW on Thursday at 8 pm.
