'Vampire Diaries’ Season 6 Cast Spoilers: New Vampires to Appear, Jeremy Gilbert to Depart

The CW's supernatural drama series 'The Vampire Diaries' is currently in its mid-season hiatus, and ahead of its return, more news has popped up about additions to the show's cast.

It has been reported that up and coming actor Drew Stephenson and Annie Wersching of '24' have been tapped to join the show. Stephenson has been reportedly cast in the role of Collin and will appear in several episodes of season six, while Wersching will play a recurring role in Lily.

Not much is known about Collin and Lily, though a press release stated that Collin will be important to the show's plot. Rumor has it that Collin may have something to do with a cancer cure for Caroline Forbes' mother, especially after it was found out that Stephenson will be sharing screen time with Candice Accola, who plays Caroline.

While fans can say hello to two new faces, they also have to say goodbye to a series regular. It has been confirmed that Steven R. McQueen, who plays Jeremy Gilbert, will be bowing out of the show.

Gilbert has been part of the show since 2009 and the show's executive producer Julie Plec, stated, "His final episode will be episode 614, and the episode leading up to it will be him grappling with whether or not it's time for him to say goodbye to Mystic Falls."

Plec shared that the team looked at which characters are ready to move and chose Jeremy, saying, "We felt like it was time for him to go out on his own and start a fresh new life with a twist."

She also said that as Jeremy was leaving the show alive, there was a possibility for McQueen to come back, depending on the story and if the actor is willing.

'The Vampire Diaries' is set to return on Jan. 22 at 8/7c on The CW.
