Valve's Steam Controller Release Date, New Design: Gaming Device Unveiled at GDF 2015 Event?

A recent forum post shed light onto the new and updated design for the upcoming Valve gaming device, the Steam Controller. While there is no official release date, speculation rests that it will launch sometime in 2015.

The new details were posted on Valvetime forums and the new layout for the controller can be seen here.

Check out the previous Steam Controller design that was showcased last July here.

Stepping back into the Valvetime post, the staff member that broke the news said, "The new design, shown below, appears largely similar to the previous iteration and features an analogue stick, four main buttons, and two touch pads."

Evidently, he mentioned how the new image was obtained, "As with the last few designs, the most recent appearance of the Steam Controller has been unearthed from files contained within the latest Steam Client Beta update."

As of yet there has been no word in regards to the official release date of the Steam Controller. However, there is speculation that the new gizmo will be unveiled at the next GDF event.

For those that are unfamiliar, GDF stands for Game Developers Conference, and sure enough Valve is set to make an appearance. Next year's GDF will take place at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.

Regarding the dates, the conference will take place between March 2-6, while the Expo will be March 4-6.

On that note, there's a chance that Valve will go ahead and showcase the Steam Controller at this 2015 event. However, while that is not confirmed, there is evidence to back up the idea.

Pulling up the Valvetime once again, the aforementioned staff member shed some light on this possibility. He said, "While it has yet to be officially revealed by Valve, it's extremely likely this new design will be shown off in public for the first time at GDC 2015, as Valve's Doug Lombardi recently confirmed the company would have a "large Steam Machine presence" at the event in March."

Evidently, gamers will just have to wait for the official release date of the Steam Controller, but they can still hope for its launch at next year's GDF.
