Utah Jazz NBA 2015 News: Jazz Guard Dante Exum Injures Knee in International Exhibition; ACL Tear Feared

Utah Jazz guard Dante Exum suffered a non-contact left knee injury on Tuesday while competing for the Australian National Team in a game against the Slovenian National Team. According to the team release, the fifth overall pick in last year's draft was initially treated on site and is set to return to Salt lake City for further medical evaluation by the Jazz medical staff and official healthcare partner University of Utah Health Care.

The incident occurred during an exhibition game in Ljubljana, Slovenia when Exum drove to the lane and made a jump stop. He appeared to be in pain as soon as he landed and crumbled to the floor without any contact from another player. After just playing six minutes in the game, Exum returned to the bench with his knee wrapped.

Jazz writer Jody Genessy, tweeted that according to a source, the injury is a left anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear. He also notes that if it is indeed an ACL tear. Exum could wind up missing the entire 2015-16 season.

For a team that no one expected anything from last season, the Jazz had a brilliant second half in 2014-15. They had the sixth-best record after the All-Star break, and had the league's No.1 defense.

Many league observers have the Jazz as the sexy pick to sneak into the playoffs on the backs of a slew of young talent, and the machinations of head coach Quin Snyder. While the 20-year-old is not exactly expected to deliver on his promising talents this upcoming season, he figured to be an integral part of what the Jazz are looking to do.

Exum also suffered an ankle injury earlier this summer after playing well in his only Summer League game. After scoring 20 points and handing out five assists, he was sidelined for the final seven games because of the injury.
