'Uncharted 4' New Game News: PS4 Title to have Real-Time Cutscenes
The developers over at Naughty Dog plan on bringing fans a whole new immersive experience with their 'Uncharted 4' title for the PS4.
The biggest innovation for the game was recently discussed at PlayStation's new series 'Conversations with Creators,' which saw co-lead designer Anthony Newman discussing the new-gen technology that will allow real-time cutscenes. This feature will allow players to play through the game seamlessly through animated scenes.
"We're actually doing real-time cutscenes in Uncharted 4, which is a new step for us," he said. "You're not going to see those black bars that we used to have in between gameplay and cutscenes. That's going to let us be so much more expressive and really get that seamlessness between the storytelling and the gameplay. Which we already do very well, but it's going to allow us to take it to that next level.
"That super great-looking Nathan Drake that's in the cutscenes--that's going to be the guy you have the whole time. The lighting model is nearly identical. All of that emotion you get across in the cutscenes, you'll have in gameplay all the time."
This concept has been discussed for the title since last year at a Playstation panel. Character Artist Colin Thomas stated:
"A lot of that stuff we were definitely able to handle in shader as opposed to sculpting it into the high res," he said of the modeling and character design. "And that helped a lot to maintain, from as he goes in-game to cinematic, the same level of detail. So, nothing drops in terms of detail level once he gets into the game."
'Uncharted 4' for the Playstation 4 is slated to release sometime in 2016.
